The Best Part of Waking Up… Is Coffee in Your Body Scrub?

It’s no secret that I am a skin care fanatic. Some people hoard make up, clothing, and many other personal treasures, but give me skin care products and I have a field day! With constant shows, make-up, glitter, and everything else my skin has to endure, I try to exfoliate at least twice a week to retain healthy, glowing skin. Recently I have been going more of the DIY route and created a body scrub that left my skin feeling smooth and moisturized. All you need is coffee grounds, coconut oil, and coarse sea salt.

Recipe

1/2 cup Coffee Grounds (Can be fresh or used)

1/4 cup Coarse Sea Salt

1/4 cup Coconut Oil

Mix all ingredients in a bowl and scrub away. Can be used on your face, although scrub lightly, and body.

Warning: This is a bit of a messy scrub, so I recommend using in the shower rather than over your sink.

The caffeine in the coffee grounds is great for your skin. It can help constrict blood vessels, tighten skin, and the grounds act like an exfoliant. “Caffeine has been shown to constrict blood vessels,” explains Cheryl Karcher, MD, a dermatologist in New York City. Because of this, she says, it’s possible that applying caffeine-enhanced products to trouble spots may temporarily reduce swelling and contribute to the appearance of, say, a tighter tummy, skinnier thighs, or less puffy under-eye circles.” Read the full article here.

Coconut oil has so many properties that make it wonderful for your skin. You can use it alone as a make-up remover and daily face cleanser, or leave it on for a natural moisturizer. “Why does coconut oil for skin work so well? In part, it’s due to the saturated fats that helps the skin stay moisturized, with the fat preventing moisture loss through the skin’s pores. These fats give the skin a healthy, smooth and even tone.” Read the full article here.

Sea salt is a wonderful exfoliant and is a natural detoxifier, as the salt absorbs the toxins from the skin. Read more about its benefits here.

So go scrub away loves and let me know if you enjoy the recipe!
